Goodbye 2012

2013 is a wink away and we'd be leaving 2012 behind.

It's been a fan-freaking-tastic year. I've read a lot more books than I have in years previously and that's largely because of the book community I had only heard about this year. I mean I knew people were passionate when it came to books, but I didn't realize that there was this awesome community who shared my love for literature. I joined Goodreads around April this year and thank goodness for that because I wouldn't even have heard of half the books I read and loved. I would still be looking for recommendations on the NY Best-Seller's List and while it features some good books, most of the time, it's highly inaccurate. I was only getting used to Goodreads when two months later, I discovered the book blogging community. I didn't know it could get any awesomer than Goodreads but it did. I've met many people, made friends with lots of you and fangirled so many times about authors and books and *sniff* I love you all.
Sorry, didn't mean to get all emotional.

Anyway, thanks to my readers and my followers and authors and publishers and just everyone part of this awesome community. See you all next year for more reviews, more books, more fangirling, more fun.

Top 10 of 2012: Books I’m Looking Forward to in 2013

Books I'm Looking Forward to in 2013

It seems like only a minute ago that I was complaining about 2013 being ageeeesss away and that why couldn't I have the Time Turner or something and just fast forward to the book's release date because this waiting is going to kill me.Sigh... It has been a great year for books (then again, what year wasn't) and 2013 will be an even better one.  Now, it's less than a week left until 2013 and the new releases will come pouring out of the bookshops. I just need to hold on a little bit longer...

The Eternity Cure (Blood of Eden, #2)The Eternity Code - Blood of Eden (2) by Julie Kagawa
Expected Pub: 23 April 2013

This series is one of the best ones I read this year. Immortal Rules was awesome and I'm shit scared for what will happen on this one. Ally. Zeke. Kanin. Oh but, I'm super excited as well. Not a big fan of the cover, but it's a lot better than Immortal Rules' non-Asian model with the tacky Photoshopped blood of tears. But who cares, I want it. I want it now.

Perfect Scoundrels (Heist Society, #3)Perfect Scoundrels - Heist Society (3) by Ally Carter
Expected Pub: 05 Feb 2013

I love Ally. I really do. She just hits all the right spots when it comes to creating super extra special kickbutt teens. And I've just gotta mention that cover. It looks so pretty. I love the sunglasses theme and it's Hale! If Kat and Hale doesn't finally end up together, I swear Ally is going to receive a very angry letter.

Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2)Scarlet - Lunar Chronicles (2) by Marissa Meyer
Expected Pub: 05 Feb 2013

I'm practically drooling just thinking about this one. Cinder was one of the best reads of the year. So different, so kickass. She did so well putting her own twist on the fairytale and I can just feel this one being super great. Hopefully it's not as predictable as Cinder, though.

Siege and Storm (The Grisha, #2)Siege and Storm - The Grisha (2) by Leigh Bardugo
Expected Pub: 04 Jun 2013

Huh. Quite a lot of books on my list seem to be sequels of some awesome series. Anyway, Siege and Storm is another. I'm eager to see what adventures Alina and Mal will get themselves into after crossing the sea. Can't forget about the Darkling either. No way he's dead.

Just One Day (Just One Day, #1)

Just One Day - Just One Day (1) by Gayle Forman
Expected Pub: 08 Jan 2013

I'm expecting Great thing from this one. Don't disappoint me, Gayle. If I Stay was absolutely heartbreaking, Where She Went a little less so. But I'm want Great things from this one. I want this to be even better than your other works.

Those are the ones where the cover is actually released. I know 2013 is just around the corner but the fact that there is still no cover on these books just make it seem like it'll be forever until I get to finally read them. Anyway, here are the ones where covers aren't yet released, much less synopsis, or a set publication date. Some of them don't even have titles yet! What the fudge. And here, I thought I would be nearly done with all the waiting...

Rebel Spring - Falling Kingdoms (2) by Morgan Rhodes

I am a sucker for High Fantasy so it's no real surprise that I was hooked by this one.

Untitled - Gallagher Girls (6) by Ally Carter

C'mon, Ally! Give us something, at least. It's the end and I can't believe how much this series has grown, especially in terms of the plot.

Detergent - Trilo-gent (3) by Veronica Roth

Do I even have to explain why I want this book?

Untitled - The Raven Cycle (2) by Maggie Stiefvater

I feel like I talk too much about his book. How could I not though? Maggie is brilliant.

Untitled - Peryn and the End of Days (2) by Susan Ee

I discovered this one pretty late but seriously. Angelfall was released 2011. There was nothing, no information about it this year. I think it's only fair that it'd be released this year. Don't be mean, Susan. I can only imagine how hard the wait must be for those who read Angelfall on 2011.

Promo Event -- The Daring Young Man by Jane George

Title: The Daring Young Man
Author: Jane George
Series: Mumbo Jumbo Circus (2)
Publisher: Paper Grove Publishing
Release Date: 10 Dec 2012

Sixteen year-old Dante Delgado is staring down the barrel of a gangbanger's gun when he's surprised by the arrival of a clown on a unicycle.

Dante hates clowns. He hates everything to do with the circus. He once dreamed of being one of the few trapecistas able to do a quadruple somersault in the air. Then a tragic accident took his parents, their circus, and his ability to fly. But when faced with the choice between the circus or a bullet, he jumps on the clown's shoulders and rides off to an even more mysterious adventure involving Dia de los Muertos, two dangerous girls, and the nemesis of the tiny, magical Mumbo Jumbo Circus, the evil Las Vegas spectacular, Cirque Patron.

Excerpt
Dante and Markie, a strange girl who has taken up with the circus teens, are busking (performing for money) in Balboa Park, San Diego. The act ends with a kiss:

Markie crashed into him. By all rights, he should have been flattened. The impression was more like being absorbed into a marshmallow. Her arms wrapped around him, sending a rush of feeling all down his back that continued into his hamstrings and calves. He shuddered, and she responded by quivering with glee. Her eyes were bulbous. Her teeth protruded. Dante should be repulsed.
But he wasn’t.
The crowd started chanting, “Kiss him! Kiss him!”
Markie played the moment to its fullest, glancing at the crowd, her expression bursting with naiveté, as if to ask, “Should I, really?”
They hooted and stomped.
She ripped the fake lips from her face and placed her mouth upon Dante’s.
A collective, “OOOOOOOOH,” rose from the audience.
Dante barely heard it. What he did hear was the haunting lullaby from the night he almost drowned and the seductive sound of ocean waves relaxing his defenses, drawing him in. Her mouth slid over his with sublime tenderness. He couldn’t stop himself from kissing her back. The kiss grew deeper.
His body buzzed, and along with the sensation came an overwhelming sense of her love. For him. He felt himself melting into her. He craved this unconditional comfort she offered. And her kiss was so incredibly hot. So sinuous. He forgot this was Markie. She hugged him tighter, and he floated on a soothing bed of complete ease. His hurt, his worry, his anger, vanished. He longed to keep kissing her, to disappear into her love.
The lullaby pulled at his thoughts. A hiss-hiss sound tugged at his body. It was the sound waves made as they kissed the sand. Over and over. He could no longer tell where he ended and Markie began. They merged. For a split second, he connected with her pure, inner joy, sparkling and fizzy, like he was her.
Dante wasn’t swimming, but he felt like he was. Deep in his soul, something black rose up like a shark, ascending toward the surface beneath his desperate, paddling feet. He couldn’t allow this. She’d drown him. Kill who he was. He couldn’t breathe.
He pushed away from Markie and stumbled backward.
They were alone. The crowd had long dispersed.
“¿Qué diablos?” he demanded.
“We kissed.” She stared at him with those ugly, gorgeous goggle-eyes. “It was part of the act.”
“I’m talking about the rest of it.” He backed a step further from her. “What in hell happened, man?”
She walked over to the coffee can and lifted it. “We made a bunch of money is what happened. We work well together.”
“Huh.”
“There’s a group of people coming out of the conservatory.” Markie pointed. “Let’s start the act over.”
“You mean do it again?” Dante couldn’t quite keep the dismay out of his voice.
“Yeah, of course. The Mumbo Jumbo Circus needs money. We can double what’s in this can right now.”
He narrowed his eyes at her, trying to see her secrets. “You’re some type of siren aren’t you? You know, like the ones that drown sailors.”
She startled. “What are you talking about? We don’t… Those aren’t real.”
“You tried to drown me with that kiss,” he accused.
“You’re nuts. I would never…” She set down the can and put her hands on her hips. “I saved your life on that beach!”
Angry again, Dante walked up close to her. “Saved my life? I woke up naked, covered in sand, and couldn’t remember much. How about you tell me what went on, yeah?”
“I rescued you so now I care about you, is that so awful?”
Dante froze. That was exactly how he felt about Belinda. Well that, and a healthy dose of lust.
He said, “I don’t remember needing to be rescued.” Which wasn’t true.
“Trust me. You were well on your way to being the cutest corpse I’ve ever seen.”
Dante hated to be called cute. And wait a minute, she’d seen other corpses? He was far from reassured. He could recall the gangbangers, their fists and their knives. He remembered backing into the ocean to escape them. After that, his mind filled with that haunting lullaby and a warm mushy feeling. Yuck. That feeling, combined with the frustration of not being able to recount everything that happened that night, added to his rage.
“You must be one heck of a swimmer,” he spat out. “Olympic level even.”
“Oh, I’m better than that. I’m a regular sea monster.”
Dante laughed and, oddly, his anger dissipated. He couldn’t figure her out. What an absurd thing to say.

Top 10 of 2012: Best Book Boyfriends

BEST BOOK BOYFRIENDS

A book wouldn't be complete without a smoking hot book boyfriend. The list is only supposed to be from books released in 2012 but I'm gonna do a little rule breaking. Also, I'm only going to have five on the list. It's a coveted spot that I don't give away so easily. So without further ado...

The Fault in Our StarsThe Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Augustus Waters

No one trumps Augustus Waters. Him and crooked smile and his unlit cigarette and jokes and his Genie wish and his overdone picnic that was Romantic, but not romantic. I know he's unrealistic but that isn't going to stop me from wishing he was.

Obsidian (Lux, #1)
Obsidian- The Lux (1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Daemon Black

Daemon is all kinds of ass- jackass, smartass and definitely one smoking hot piece of ass. I'm a bit late to hop in on the bandwagon but better late than never, right? I don't usually enjoy sci-fi/alien type fiction. I find them boring and unexciting. But I don't know what it was about Lux th- ok fine, it was Daemon. He's that hot.

Shadowfever (Fever, #5)Shadowfever- Fever (5) by Karen Marie Moning

Jericho Z. Barrons

Dayuuuum. Barrons is just... Sigh. He is hard, inhuman and brilliant. He is one of the most complicated, yet simple men ever. And him and Mac is probably one of the cutest, hottest, best couple in the world. I loved seeing Mac make him tick and it's just so damn entertaining. Thank you, Ms Moning for giving us Barrons.

The Raven Boys (Raven Cycle, #1) The Raven Boys - The Raven Cycle (1) by Maggie Stiefvater

Richard "Dick" Campbell Gansey

Gansey is a true Aglionby boy- ridiculously rich, radiating confidence, power and completely obsessed with the supernatural, with waking the sleeping Glendower. He can be very flippant about money, which offends Adam like you wouldn't believe. But being rich isn't his fault and he never means it. Shut up, Adam. You're just a jealous, horrible friend.

Anna and the French KissAnna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Étienne St. Clair

He is the cutest, most adorable ever. He's funny, smart, part American (mum), part French (dad) but he has a British accent (lived there) . Whaaat. He is a bit short, though but his personality towers over everyone else.

They all look so pretty. Look at them, calling me, enchanting me. I am not ashamed to say that I judge most books by their covers. If publishers really want me to read their books, then they would at least make an attempt to get me interested and excited for it. I haven't read most of the books on here (only the first row) but they look awesome enough that I would really want to. (I'm still having trouble keeping my hands off of The Lost Prince. I hated the first two books of Iron Fey series but The Lost Prince looks fantastic enough that I'm willing to finish off Iron Fey just so I can read it. But I won't. I won't. I won't.)

Best Book of 2012
The Fault in Our Stars
The Fault In Our Stars
Yeah, yeah. I know it's probably on a hundred other readers' list. Not exactly the most original but it is the most amazing book I've read this year. I don't even understand how John came up with this awesomeness.

2012 is almost over and it's been a great year for books. I discovered Goodreads this year and thank goodness for that. Without it, I wouldn't even have heard of half the books I've read and loved.

What's the best book you've read this year?
